How would you like to spend just 5 minutes getting to work, park your car under the trees, and walk through formal gardens to your office overlooking the golf course?  Sounds like a dream doesn't it? .... But really - that's what you can do at the Old Brewery centre in rural Castle Eden.

Don't think for a moment that this rural idyll is somewhere in the backwoods.  By road it's 15minutes from the centres of Teesside, Durham and Sunderland and just 25 minutes to the centre of Newcastle.  Both regional airports are within 30 minutes drive, and the main line Edinburgh to Kings Cross station is 15 minutes away . And by the way Castle Eden has no congestion charging :-)

The Grade 2 listed building was originally the home of William Nimmo, master brewer.  He built it in 1828 and the family added to it as the years went by.  It's also been a coaching inn, a courthouse and a jail.

In the 1930's it became one of the best known breweries in the country and was eventually taken over by Whitbread.  Today the old brewery workings behind the listed buildings have being demolished to make way for luxury housing.

It is a shame that nearly 200 years of brewing tradition in Castle Eden has now come to an end.  We hope to devote some space in the listed building to preserve some historical documents from the past 200 years.

We have around 25 rooms to let each around 250 sq ft.  And they are available on an easy-in easy-out licence.  Just one month's notice is all you need to give.  Each room comes (optionally) fully furnished and with telephone and broadband internet access.  Of course you would need to pay for your telephone usage, but everything else can be included in the price - water, heating, lighting, furnishings, cleaning.  You can even pay a little extra for temporary membership of the golf course if you wish (it's one of the best in the region and has a 7 year waiting list).

Also included are free car parking, use of the common meeting areas, and the self service kitchen area.  We can provide a receptionist and telephone answering service (at extra cost) and there is a fully equipped meeting room that can be booked for private meetings (up to 12 people).  And there is a larger seminar/training room that can seat up to 45 people

The building work includes for two more blocks in the style of the current listed building, a glazed atrium-style reception and meeting areas, and a sheltered garden room.  The garden itself has retained mature trees and in the warmer months is available for tenants and their visitors to sit outside

Atrium and Ginnel entrance

For organisations relocating (or setting up for the first time) within the region, there may be substantial grants available.  The agency responsible for developing economic activity in the north east is ONE North East.  You can visit their website at www.onenortheast.co.uk.  The County Durham Development Company also has some county-specific packages - try www.cddc.co.uk
